“Testify”

~ Sounds of Blackness

“The graced possibility is that each historically valid tradition has a core of truth that reaches toward the single, loving, energetic Source of creation. This core is often covered over with distortions and superficial trappings, and it may be buried under claims of exclusivity, but I believe it exists, deeply and very alive, within all major spiritual traditions. It can be found beneath Anglican formality, Roman authority, and Quaker simplicity; behind Methodist fellowship, Presbyterian morality, and Baptist freedom. It lies in the depths of Evangelical and Pentecostal zeal. It forms the matrix that binds Jews together with each other and with the Lord. It infuses the poignant devotion of Bhakti Yoga and the discriminating insight of Theravada Buddhism. It is the background upon which are painted the vibrant colors of Tantra. It is at the center of the Sufi’s twirl and the Navaho’s dance. It is the correct answer to every Zen koan.”
