“You’ve Got To Stand

for Something”

~ Aaron Tippin

“Ultimate concern perhaps is the concept closest to what we mean by a moral purpose. Named by theologian Paul Tillich, ultimate concern refers to whatever we make the central concern of our lives... From a theological perspective, Tillich suggests it is idolatrous for us to make an object of ultimate concern anything that is not truly ultimate... Standing for something is the quality of ultimate concern. We stand for those things to which we are ultimately committed and from which we derive our ultimate fulfillment.”
